The Myth of Shortcuts to Success

The Myth of Shortcuts to Success

Hi there,

June is officially underway, and with it, the good weather has people out and about, sunglasses on. Even my routine is getting more structured as it’s easier to get up in the morning now. Today, I want to talk about shortcuts to success and the various projects I’m working on and why I’m trying them.

But first, let’s do our weekly inventory check.

Weekly Inventory Check

May has ended, and you know what we do here at Vasl. We take an inventory, check what worked for the month, and review our goals. It’s important to prioritize and anchor yourself with long-term plans. While long-term plans can feel boring, they provide direction. Without them, you might find yourself sidetracking, constantly improving short-term goals without ever reaching the big picture.

Now, on to the topic:

Shortcuts to Success

Right now, I’m juggling multiple projects: building an AI tool startup, organizing a streaming tournament with friends, maintaining a podcast, writing a weekly newsletter, and growing my digital presence. Plus, I have a full-time job and fatherhood responsibilities. Why am I sharing all this? Because I’m hoping one of these projects will hit and lead to success, which I can then leverage for more success.

When you see someone online who seems to have made it overnight, it can look like a shortcut. But I genuinely believe that shortcuts to success are mostly lies. While luck can play a role, and sometimes a shortcut does appear, it’s not something you can rely on.

Consider the example of entrepreneurs who thrived during COVID by selling masks. They seized an opportunity, but they also got lucky. This doesn’t diminish their hard work and entrepreneurial spirit, but it highlights that luck and opportunity often play a part in success.

However, chasing shortcuts for the sake of shortcuts is a flawed strategy. My friend and I have tried forex trading for almost a decade, hoping for quick success. Yet, we’ve learned that foundational work and perseverance are key. Chasing short-term success leads to failure if you’re not prepared to put in the work and build a solid foundation.

Control what you can: your effort, your output, and your commitment to improvement. Whether success comes quickly or gradually, focus on doing your best and letting the rest follow.

Reel of the Week

Rushed decisions may lead to short-term gains but may not be sustainable in the long run. Taking the time to thoroughly analyze and plan can result in more stable and favorable outcomes. It’s essential to consider the potential ripple effects of our actions on our future, as hasty choices might lead to unforeseen challenges or missed opportunities down the road. Balancing the need for immediate results with the consideration of future consequences is key to making well-informed decisions that benefit us in the long term.

The Weekly Vasl Podcast

Our episode on Conversations No one Wants to Have is out now. You can watch it below. This week, I dived into the intriguing topic of luck and its role in our lives. While it might seem that luck diminishes the importance of hard work, I emphasized that luck is just a small part of the equation for success. When viewed positively, luck complements the effort and determination we put into our endeavors. I also reflected on how our generation has evolved compared to our parents and grandparents. With advancements in technology, we’ve become more productive and efficient, yet it’s worth noting that luck might have played a more favorable role for the newer generations in certain aspects.

Speaking of generations, with Father’s Day fast approaching, we have a special segment dedicated to celebrating this meaningful occasion. Be sure not to miss out on this heartfelt tribute!
